Global warming is evident everywhere in our Earth. We can see it happening in some places more than others. But the question is, do we really care? Do we concern ourselves about what will happen to the Earth years from now? Do we believe that we can do something about this issue?
Our world is falling apart. I was struck by this fact the day I watched an inspiring movie on global warming at my school. Global warming has caused serious issues in our planet. The carbon dioxide emissions from cars, industries, and even fertilizers damage the Earth and cause tremendous changes from the melting of ice caps to the endangerment of species. To top that off, as our population continues to grow, more and more trees and forests are being cleared to make way for houses, roads, and freeways that will all be new areas where carbon dioxide emissions will be prevalent.
When the movie ended, I sat crying in my seat and turned my head to see my fellow classmates completely unconcerned and unaffected. It shocked me how ignorant my classmates and even some of my friends were to this issue. My sorrow immediately turned into anger and confusion as I realized that the reason why our planet is suffering is because we are letting it suffer. If we just sit back and assume that scientists are taking care of the “global warming problem” then we’re not going to get anywhere and our world will continue to deteriorate. The Earth gives us food, life, and a home where everyone can live. Despite knowing this fact, people unintentionally and even deliberately hurt the environment.
I felt as if people didn’t appreciate the Earth for what it is, what it gives, and even what it has to offer. But then I came to the realization that maybe people do care. I ran up to my friend after class and asked her what she thought about the movie. She asserted, “It’s sad but it won’t matter anyway since global warming’s happening so fast that we can’t do much about it.” Then I understood that people, like my friend, had given up hope. It was as if they had already given up on themselves, and essentially, the planet.
But it’s time for us to make a change and do something about this issue. All we need is a little faith in the world and ourselves. If we believe that we can make a change, even a small one, then we’ll have the strength to protect our planet from global warming. Several people may deem that it’s too late to protect the world from global warming. But I believe that there’s so much we can do to slow global warming down and prevent these negative changes in our world. By doing the simplest things, we can help preserve the Earth for years to come. One person can make a huge change in this world. So let’s have faith and work hard to protect our planet one step at a time. |
