Those Old Shoes

Have you ever wondered what you can do with your old shoes? Now most
shoes are glues together and cannot have the sole replaced but that
does not mean there is not an alternative to turning them into trash.
Nike and the National Recycling Coalition are working together to do
find a great use for your old shoes. Any athletic shoes that do not
contain metal can be taken to a local drop off station or mailed to
26755 SW 95th Ave. Wilsonville, OR 97070.

The shoes will be made into the Nike Grind, which is used for resurface
athletic fields, courts, tracks and playgrounds. Albany high school participated in this Reuse-a-shoe campaign by having our own shoe raffle. For every shoe each student recycled, we gave each student a ticket. At the end, three tickets were pulled and they were given prizes. This was great because we were able to recycle old shoes that otherwise would go to a landfill, let students get involved and give them cool prizes. The reuse-a-shoe campaign is run all year around and has been going for over five years.
