Pallavi Sherikar

Hi Everyone! My name is Pallavi Sherikar and I will be in 11th grade this fall at Irvington High School. I am a committee head for an inter-district environmental organization called FIERCE (FremontIans Enabling Real Change in the Environment). I am also starting an environmental club at my school this year. My main interest lies in alternative clean energy as well as implementing environmental policies. I think the science behind a greener future is crucially important, and just as important is the implementation of these new advances. I think that our generation is the key to really making a difference in our environment. The Green News is a great way to connect with other people that feel the same way I do, and learn about the different things, both positive and negative, going on in the environment.

The Green
The Green is a monthly online environmental newspaper written by and for teens. The Green provides a place where youth can voice their thoughts, ideas, and beliefs about the environment and have them seen by other youth and adults in the Bay Area and across the nation.

What We’re Looking For
The Green welcomes all types of writing and artwork. Poetry, creative writing, editorials, book reviews, rants & raves, photos, drawings, comic strips, anything environmentally-related that you’d like to share. You don’t need to be an expert, you just need to be willing to share your knowledge and opinions.

Getting Started
You can get started by browsing through the current issue of The Green by using the links on this page. Then, if you feel ready, dive right in and start submitting your own work!!

The Green News Team
You can receive a small monetary reward at the end of the year by becoming part of The Green Team and agreeing to submit on a monthly or bi-monthly basis. Or, if you would rather just submit something every once-in-a-while, we welcome that as well. Either way, click on the Contact Us link to get in contact with us.

For Teachers
Teachers, take a look at the For Teachers link for ideas on how to incorporate The Green into your lesson plans. Use The Green to energize a writing or photography assignment, encourage students to publish their work, expose students to other youth writings, and to incorporate technology into your curriculum.
