Kim Mejia-Cuellar

Kim Mejia-Cuellar is a junior at Media Academy. She loves writing and hopes to major in journalism at her dream school, UC Berkeley. As a sophomore, Mejia wrote for The Green and Gold, the Oakland Teen Times, and the school magazine Tiger Talk. Last year, she started the debate section on thegreenenews.net with her sister, Gloria “Jack” Mejia. The Mejia sisters are also part of the Green News’ Student Editorial Board and the Youth Advisory Board for the San Franciscan non-profit organization 826 Valencia that helps young writers. Mejia also manages a music blog with her sister (musicaddictblog.tumblr.com).  Aside from writing for publications, Mejia enjoys music and attending concerts whenever the opportunity makes itself present. An amateur photographer, Mejia loves taking pictures of wildlife at San Leandro Creek and Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline. “The environment is an important subject, and I want people to be educated about the issues we are facing today.” Mejia said. “Hopefully the debate column will shine light on some of those topics and show people different view points.”
